Event Review: Escape from the Golden Hinde

Synopsis

Cast off on a theatrical, immersive adventure at Escape from The Golden Hinde, moored at St Mary Overie’s Dock on the banks of the Thames at London Bridge.

The team behind Secret Studio – London’s top escape game –  has created a new seafaring quest aboard an historic reconstruction of Francis Drake’s ship, The Golden Hinde.

You have 60 minutes to explore the vessel, solve its fiendish mysteries, and escape ashore.

Along the way you’ll meet filthy deckhands, squabble with highborn nobles and maybe even dance
with some disco divas.

The Secret Studio team is a mix of filmmakers, actors and theatre practitioners.

Review

Have you ever wanted to sail the Seven Seas with a crew of swashbuckling buccaneers? Searching for glory, fame and fortune?

Well now you can. In an inlet off the Thames, the Golden Hinde makes berth, rocking gently on the waves… well, sort of anyway.

On deck are some brutal scalliwags in need of your help to find Francis Drake’s missing ring. The catch? You have just one hour to solve the clues and escape!

This was such a fun escape room! The setting onboard ship elevated the concept of a locked room full of puzzles, as you are surrounded by water, which adds to the sense of foreboding and intrigue.

Split between the 16th and 20th centuries players are sent into the depths of the ship, forced to work together on the quest and to complete the tasks within the short time-frame. It’s fast, furious and hard work, although not quite as tough as being a sailor in the 1590s!

Tasks are both physically and mentally challenging, resulting in overthinking, bickering and elation when the next clue is revealed!

A fantastic adventure for landlubbers and sea dogs alike! And yes, we did escape…
