Is blood thicker than water?
L.V. Matthews ~ Silent Waters
Synopsis
At 5am one summer’s morning, police diver Jen Harper wakes to find herself submerged in the silt of a river with no memory of how she got there.
Forty-eight hours later, she’s called to dive in the same river in search of a missing woman, Claudia Franklin.
But for Jen, this is no ordinary job. Her and Claudia’s families were entangled for decades – there is unresolved resentment between them, unspoken secrets.
Jen hasn’t seen Claudia for twelve years now. Or has she?
Review
If a thriller makes my skin prick with goosebumps, a feeling of unease washing over me as I read, then it’s done a bloody good job. And if it makes me cry “wtf” halfway through, even better!
After loving The Twins, I was super excited for Silent Waters and it definitely lived up to my expectations. What I love about Liv’s writing is that it transports you to the crime scene, managing to both horrify and excite you in the same sentence. Every character is believable, making it even easier to relate to them and feel defensive about their choices.
Jen is flawed, but this makes her decisions understandable even if we know they are terrible. Despite the conflict of interest, Jen is determined to join the hunt for Claudia, making us question her motives, as well as those of her brother. The more we learn about ‘that summer’, the more we realise how their stories are entwined and that there are threatening secrets to be spilled that could ruin many lives…
With plenty of twists and surprises to keep you guessing, Silent Waters is a brilliant page turner, that is both shocking and delightful.
No pressure Liv, but I’m already eagerly anticipating book four…
Thanks to Welbeck Publishing for my proof copy. Opinions my own.
